What is the project?
The redevelopment of Manchester’s Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI) will:
create a new Gallery, Revolution Manchester, which will showcase industrial, scientific and transport ‘world firsts’ that have taken place in Manchester. This will also act as a physical hub for Industrial Powerhouse, the marketing initiative for the region’s industrial heritage attractions, and a regional Slipstream Brand;
create a new entrance through the Lower Byrom Street window, to draw in passing visitors;
create a new visitor information space, including a new information desk and signage to provide a summary of the Museum’s overall story and to aid visitor orientation;
expand the existing Xperiment gallery, an interactive Science Gallery next to Manchester Science Gallery;
remove ramps and replace them with public lifts;
increase the provision of toilets and locker room facilitie; and
modify the top floor to accommodate separate conferencing and banqueting facilities for corporate clients, and a Learning Centre for school groups.
