Supporting Employment Creation for Areas of Regeneration Need

Funding for projects which support a targeted, holistic programme of employment creation in prioritised regeneration areas that face low employment rates.

Rationale

An estimated £3 billion of the Gross Value Added gap – compared to the England average – is caused by the region’s lower level of economic participation.

The Northwest has significant concentrations of worklessness, with 90% of unemployment in the Northwest concentrated in just nine local authority districts.

Some of these districts have weak employment bases and are remote from major employment areas, while others may be closer to major employment areas, but still have limited employment opportunities within the immediate area.

These areas face a combination of high worklessness and other aspects of deprivation, including poor housing and access to services, heath inequalities, and high crime. Employment creation and enterprise development need to be part of a targeted, holistic approach to securing sustainable communities.

Eligible Activities

There are two types of project eligible for funding under AA4-3

• Strand 1: Support for Development of Employment Sites in Target Areas; 
• Strand 2: Support for Integrated Projects, which Through Physical Investment will Directly Support.
